2025 Sawtooth Outdoor Bonspiel

The Boise Curling Club will be hosting the 12th annual Sawtooth Outdoor Bonspiel (the “S.O.B.”) in Stanley, Idaho on January 24-26, 2025. The S.O.B. is a 16-team, three-day open bonspiel with a three game guarantee held on the outdoor ice rink in Stanley. The S.O.B. will begin at 5pm on Friday and end at noon on Sunday.

When the 2024 S.O.B. was essentially rained out, all of those teams were offered guaranteed re-entry for 2025. Because of that, only FOUR open spots remain for 2025. We hope to be back to offering double-digit team entries in 2026.

Registration Lottery

Starting in 2024, the SOB moved to a lottery system to determine entry, to provide the fairest means possible for teams to attend. Registration is open for 4 full days, from 12 noon MT on November 11th through 12 noon MT on November 15th. Teams can register on this page.

All teams will be put into a Bingo machine with a corresponding number. Each entry will receive one Bingo ball. A valid entry consists of at least 3 unique curlers on a team. In the Spirit of Curling, please do not try to game the system by entering multiple times for the same team. The committee reserves the right to remove entries if tampering is evident. The committee will select all Bingo balls, forming the list of teams plus a waitlist, in order of selection.

Teams who are selected will be notified the evening of Friday, November 15th. Positions on the waitlist will also be notified. As a team, you will have until 11:59pm MT on Wednesday, November 20th to submit payment of a team fee ($440) to reserve your spot. If your payment is not submitted, your spot will be assigned to the next team on the waitlist. Waitlist teams will also have 3 business days to submit payment.

Each team who enters the lottery and is unsuccessful in gaining an entry spot into the SOB will have additional tickets in the hat when entering their next lottery, regardless of whether it is the next year or a future year, thus improving the probability of being selected. Every lottery applicant will receive 2^(n-1) tickets in the hat for each unsuccessful attempt to gain entry where n is the number of years applied. As an example: If a team applies and is unsuccessful in gaining entry two times, they will have four tickets in the hat when entered in the lottery the third year (2^2), eight in fourth year (2^3), 16 in fifth (2^4), 32 in sixth (2^5), etc.

For carryover to future years, there must be at least two attendees that are the same from one year to the next.
